While i was doing research on Euthanasia for my project, I wondered on to brain cancer. Yes, my sis has brain cancer. Can't help. Ha. Told ya her brain swelled after op right? Got these from Wikipedia encyclopedia:
Edema (BE: oedema, formerly known as dropsy) is swelling of any organ or tissue due to accumulation of excess fluid. Edema has many root causes, but its common mechanism is accumulation of fluid into the tissues. Increased pressure in the skull or brain edema cause more generalized symptoms like generalized headache, nausea and vomiting, loss of consciousness (stupor or coma) and intellectual decline.
No wonder she's still sorta unconscious now...Doc ask us to shake her hard to make her awake. He even pressed on her scar from heart op and some xue dao to make her feel pain, so she opened her eyes. If not, she'll be sleeping the whole day.
Treatment includes the surgical removal of the tumor mass or the destruction of the tumor cells by radiation (radiotherapy) and/or drugs (chemotherapy) in cases with contraindications for a surgical operation.
She's gonna do chemo n radio...
A glioma is a type of primary central nervous system (CNS) tumor that arises from glial cells. The most common site of involvement of a glioma is the brain, but they can also affect the spinal cord, or any other part of the CNS, such as the optic nerves. Gliomas are named according to the specific type of cell they derive from. The three main types of gliomas are astrocytomas, oligodendrogliomas, and ependymomas, which are named for astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and ependymal cells, respectively. Mixed gliomas, such as oligoastrocytomas, contain cells from different types of glia. Most gliomas are further categorized according to their grade, which is determined by pathologic evaluation of the tumor. Low grade gliomas are well-differentiated, slower growing, biologically less aggressive, and portend a better prognosis for the patient. High grade gliomas are undifferentiated or anaplastic, fast growing and can invade adjacent tissues, and carry a worse prognosis WHO grading system for astrocytomas * WHO Grade 1 — pilocytic astrocytoma * WHO Grade 2 — astrocytoma * WHO Grade 3 — anaplastic (malignant) astrocytoma * WHO Grade 4 — glioblastoma multiforme (most common) The prognosis is worst for Grade-4 gliomas, with an average survival time of 14-18 months. Overall, the five year survival rate is 5%.
Well...Doc told my ma if we take good care of her, she can live 3-5yrs or even longer. But if things happen, we may not know. So, i suspect, it's at Grade 3 or 4. Gonna ask. Gives me the jitterbugs. Please....pray for her...
